It is an exciting time in the life of a church when one of their own responds to God’s call to ministry. Samantha Parson answered God’s call, and is now attending Asbury Seminary in Kentucky. She and her family need continued prayers, love from family and friends, and financial support as they continue this journey. The Church Council voted unanimously to recertify Samantha as our candidate for the ministry. Now, as her “Partnering Church”, we can help make God’s call a reality by supporting her through a Ministry Scholarship Fund established as part of the Missions program.
In December 2005, we held a contest to kick off the campaign to raise funds for the Ministry Scholarship Fund. The winning entry, submitted by the Middle School Youth, was a green spirit band (bracelet) imprinted with "Support Our Samantha". The spirit bands will be sold, and the proceeds will be deposited into the scholarship fund.
Anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution to the Fund should make a check payable to FUMC with "Ministry Scholarship Fund" in the memo section of the check. By Internal Revenue Service law, no individual's name may appear on the check. Samantha can then make application to the fund, FUMC will send a check payable to the seminary, and the seminary will deposit the funds into Samantha's account. These funds will help defray the costs of tuition, books, or other expenses involved in her training.
May the spirit bands be worn proudly and be a constant reminder of our commitment to support Samantha and her family with our thoughts, prayers, love, and gifts.
