“Beginnings and Endings”

September is looked upon by many as a time of new beginnings as the summer ends and a new school year rolls into high gear (yes, I know the school year starts now in August but they really pick up in intensity after Labor Day). The weather starts to change a little bit and hopefully the involvement level of some of our summertime church absentees picks up dramatically. This September we will be blessed with the special community-wide “Restoration Encounter” Revival at the Football Stadium on the nights of September 14-16th and the “Fatted Calf” Barbeque Meal and “Bring a Friend” event on September 28th.  September should be exciting.

The end of August will indeed be a time of endings also at our church as August 29th will be Charla Flowers’ last day as our church’s Administrative Assistant.  Charla has faithfully and energetically served our church well for the last 3 ½ years in her capacity as office supervisor and will be sorely missed by all of us as she leaves to pursue further graduate study work at Texas A&M University - Commerce. The church appreciates all Charla has done and continues to do as she works with us in the interim transitioning time as we look for a new part-time Administrative Assistant to work with us about 15 hours weekly, Monday-Friday mornings.

Let me also ask you to join me in prayerful support for our Choir Director, Johnny Jennings, as he undergoes dialysis in the days ahead in preparation for an upcoming kidney transplant. May God grant us peace and strength in the midst of our comings and goings in life.

September Mission Project – Senior Center

Having the Senior Center here in Whitewright is a valuable asset to the seniors of our community.  Volunteers who give their time to support the Meals on Wheels effort are essential to the success of the program.  Many seniors in our community rely on the life-sustaining meals that are provided.  For some, this may be their only meal of the day, the only companionship that they may receive and often the key to continued independent living.

Brother Doyle has been instrumental in identifying and providing for the monthly programs which have been entertaining and/or educational for the attendees.  Several of our members deliver Meals on Wheels lunches.

All of us can help ensure the continued success of our Senior Center.  We have the opportunity to provide supplies and food items that are not provided by Tri-County.  During the month of September, we will be collecting non-perishable items which will be delivered to the Senior Center at the end of the month.  A collection box will be placed in the hallway near the Fellowship Hall.  Listed below are items needed by the Senior Center on a regular basis:

Paper Towels                Dishwasher Detergent

Toilet Paper                  Dawn Dish Soap

Bleach                          Freezer Bags (qt & gal)

PineSol                         Coffee

Liquid Hand Soap          Tea Bags

Cake Mixes                   PAM Spray

Splenda                         Tall Kitchen Bags

SOS Pads                     Small Can Vegetables

Fresh vegetables, eggs, margarine, bread, hamburger and hot dog buns are also needed.  If you wish to donate any of these items, you should deliver them directly to the Senior Center.  Monetary donations are also welcome and can be placed in the donation plate (please identify specifically for the Senior Center).

Thank you for your continued support of our Missions program.  If you have any questions, please contact Karen Woods at 903-364-9047.
