“Let all things be done for building up.”

     I Corinthians 14:26

Yesterday was a day of excitement and revelation at the Whitewright church.  Many of our young (twelve of them) persons led and  assisted our church service.  They contributed to worshipping God in such a way that we had not only the excitement that young people generate, but also a revelation, and epiphany, of the awesome nature of approaching God in the gathered church.

As I witnessed their actions, I noticed things that were really wonderful.  There was an intensity which the youth showed as they focused on their parts of the service.  There was earnestness in the prayer.  There was a commitment to excellence shown by their obvious desire to get things just right.  All of these things led us into a time which transcended the ordinary, that led us beyond our everyday experience.  They truly led us onto holy ground!  This reminds me of Psalm 96:9: “Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”  Yesterday was beautiful!

We are committed to youth ministry in our churches.  In the months ahead our youth will take part in learning more about Christian worship and then will craft youth-led services for us on Fifth Sundays.  Yesterday was a service which included a lot of youth who were recruited to lead in what was already in place.  In the future, the young people will lead us in services which are put together combining the newness of their excitement along with the time-honored heritage of Christian worship.   We can look forward to more experiences of being on holy ground!  We can look forward to more of the beauty of holiness!
